This post is for all parents who are faced with their kids threatening to drop out of school. My son threatened last month and we came VERY close to signing the papers for him to drop out and go for his GED. I made a quick call to Motor Vehicle and they informed me that if they drop out of school the automatically lose their drivers license until they are 18 or get their GED whatever comes first. The school guidance counselor didnt even know this and told me that she had a folder FULL of kids wanting to drop out this year. When I gave her this information she was shocked and was going to inform each of these students of the states policy. Im not sure if it is different in every state but this is for Florida. So a good tool to have on your side when this comes up is the fact that they CANT DRIVE and you are not imposing this punishment the state is. So make a quick call to MV! It worked with my son.
