Finally...

Dear Doc B.
I have finally come to my senses, and yesterday I signed up to see a shrink. My Uncle has been a huge help to me...helping me see that I have lots of problems that need to be resolved. My sessions start in two weeks, and while I am nervous about going, at the same time I am happy to finally be. I thought you might want to know, that I am going. This is a huge step for me....since, you know, I have a hard head...and I don't like to tell others my problems. But like I said...my Uncle...has been there every step of the way, and now he has finally convinced me to go.
I hope it all turns out ok...I am worried about it.

Dear Shae,
That's wonderful news! Thanks for letting us know.
I know that you're nervous. Everyone is when they first think about seeing a shrink. But allow me to make a prediction here: I think that you will leave that first session feeling like a huge rock has been lifted from your shoulders. No, your problems will not magically disappear, but you will learn that, as you've seen with your uncle, not all adults are crazy. That there are people you can safely rely upon (like good therapists). And that like Cindy and I, you're not crazy either (actually, we're still a little crazy but that only adds to our charm).
I think that early on in therapy you'll begin to understand that you're OK, that what you feel is from what HAPPENED TO YOU, that it is not WHO YOU ARE. That realization alone can bring a lot of peace.
