barely know where to begin.
I first read your book, "Yes, Your teen is Crazy" several years ago when I was teaching at a High School in order to better understand my students. Your insights were very helpful, but I would never have predicted that I would be needing your advice for my then sweet brilliant nine year old.
He's twelve now. Last night, while I was sleeping on the couch, he packed a bag and ran away. He tells me now he's been planning this for a couple of weeks. He walked two miles to the train station, and then called me to come and get him. I don't understand what this is about, we had what I thought was a really enjoyable weekend. When he ran away, he took a pistol and ammunition that had been his grandfather's. It had been in the top of his father's closet - it had never even occured to us that he knew that it was there. I remember reading that chapter in your book, and at the time I thought "oh, I don't need to worry about that with my kids."
He is so intelligent - this is something that I hear from teachers frequently. Yet, ever since we moved to Philadelphia last year he's seemed different, plummeting grades, altered sleep patterns - I've taken him to several counselors, but I don't feel like there is any progress, really. I'm frightened, I don't know what to expect from him next, and he seems so desperately unhappy.
This morning I was distraught, and rereading the chapter on runaways, and I decided to google you and see how far you were. I was thinking that there might be a slim chance that you were located in NY, and we could do that trip. When I saw that you were based in Philly, I almost couldn't believe the luck. We live in Lower Merion. So, this is another query about whether you are accepting new clients. I really hope so.
