I read Your Teen is Crazy last week. Yesterday we (wife, 13 year old crazy son and his two younger sisters) go to the country club for a family golf outing. As we are getting the clubs out, son sees neighbor boy hanging out by the pool and starts wandering over there, contrary to wife's pleading/yelling. I walk over and (dipassionately) ask him whether he would like to play golf with us or hang out with his friend. Of course he says hang with friend. I say fine, we will meet him there when we are done. 5 minutes later he meets us on the driving range and says he would rather play golf with us, and we have a wonderful time.

Prior to reading this book, I would have marched over there and grabbed him and told him we were there to play golf and by God he was going to do it, and everyone would have been miserable. My wife is reading the book as I type this. Thanks Dr. B!!!

I just have to say that I love thinking of Dr. B's advice as "Jedi Mind Tricks"...WOW....I plan to think of it as that from now on! And I agree wholeheartedly that it does work and what a great example that was. From going through a lot with my son, I believe it is so important to not sweat the smaller things and to save the conflict, major interventions, and forcing of issues for the much larger issues..i.e. anything that endangers our children. You did a great job of reading Dr. B's book and then using it! Congrats
