Nephew who is out of control-how do I help?

My 16 year old nephew is in the throes of physically destroying his family home. He is being parented by a single mom, and she is completely exhausted by his episodic rages. I am alternately furious at his mom for never having set limits with him-until now; and at him for being so abusive towards his mom.
He was required to go into intensive outpatient drug treatment, and he is beyond rageful about it. He has been smashing furniture, holes in walls, glass broken, and hurting himself. And when he's not enraged, he's sobbing.
I am wondering what I can do, as his aunt. I love him, and am really pissed at him too. I'm also really worried about his mom's physical safety, as he is big & out of control. A rage terrorist-the perfect description.

    Dear Aunt,
I apologize for the late response. We've had website attack issues.
When that insanity is going on, you need to call 911 FOR your sister since she's lost her perspective about this violence. He needs to quickly get the message that those behaviors will bring him nothing but flashing red lights at the door.
    Take care.
