She is 16, he is 17. Both are school dropouts. My son has a probation officer, is mandated to be either working or in school, but refuses school and plans to start working part-time for a friend's father.
He did quit smoking pot since he thought second-hand smoke would be bad for the baby. He and his GF fight frequently, she is very clingy, needy and jealous. He talked of moving in with her family(a non-English-speaking single mother and grown sons) (where there would be no supervision) but I've told him I won't allow that, since she would be even more devastated when they broke up. She has not yet informed her mother she's 6 weeks pregnant.
On the advice of my parent support group, and after years of power struggles, I'm giving him free rein, but not supplying money or rides. He needs to learn for himself how to survive. I did give them info on where to get medical care. The GF is rude and disrespectful to me and my husband; we try to limit her visits to when we are home but she sneaks in.
Any suggestions? it's hard to navigate this with both compassion and firmness.
