19 year old son's 15 yr old GF pregnant

Our son is 19 , his girlfriend is 15 , she is pregnant, her father is insisting she get an abortion. If she doesn't comply he says he will put our son in jail. He may not even be the father, our son will not hear of this , however I know he's thinking the same. He doesn't want to discuss it. He has not confronted the girl and has no plans too. We want to be there for him, however if is not his child. this situation will turn very ugly. Do we talk to this girls father? How can we approach the subject that he needs to make sure he is the father before he invests anymore into this?

My 16 year old son and his (then) 15 year old GF were sexually active before she turned 16. I, too, warned him that it could be construed at statutory rape if the parents got mad enough to prosecute. I was hoping it would have SOME fright value, and it may have for the few months necessary to get the girl past her 16th birthday. As you might see from posts below, however, I'm still concerned with the potential pregnancy issues.

In all likelihood, however, in your case even if the GF's father presses charges, your son (if he has a clean record) is not headed for jail for this. He might get probation and he might get some criminal sanctions that are conditioned upon (but posponed pending) your son supporting the child. But teenage pregnancy is too prevalent, the shock value of a 15 year old girl having sex not that great, and the jails too overcrowded to make me believe the judge is going to nail your son to the wall.
